Sex and Back Pain
Back pain can impact your sexual life as well as your relationship. Here are a few tips that can help manage your back pain during sex:
- Discuss the condition with your partner to prevent stress and misunderstandings in your relationship
- A warm bath, a heating pad, use of ice or a gentle massage before sexual activity may help relax the muscles and ease pain
- Use a pillow under your knees to decrease the stress over the back
- Try different positions that allow intimacy without aggravating your pain
- Prefer firm surfaces like a chair or sofa
- Seek immediate medical attention if your pain persists or is associated with pain and weakness of the legs or bowel and bladder problems. Usually, back pain is a result of inflammation around the spine and improves within two to six weeks. Back pain can also occur due to injury to muscles and ligaments
